Ramadan and Shawwal 2022/1443AH

Sharing the announcement from the Islamic Shura council of southern California regarding the first day of Ramadan 1443 AH and Eid-al Fitr:

Based on the decision of the Fiqh Council of North America, the Shura Council is pleased to announce that the dates of Ramadan and Eid-al-Fitr for the year 2022/1443 AH are expected to be as follows, insha’Allah.

Ramadan & Shawwal 2022/1443 AH
First Taraweeh: Friday, April 1
First Day of Fasting: Saturday, April 2
Eid-al-Fitr: Monday, May 2

From the Fiqh Council of North America:
The Astronomical New Moon is on Friday, April 1, 2022, at 6:24 Universal Time. On that day, everywhere in North and South America at sunset, the elongation is at least 8 degrees and the moon is at least 5 degrees above the sun. Therefore, the first day of Ramadan 1443 AH is on Saturday, April 2, 2022, insha’Allah. Friday night April 1st would be the first Taraweeh.

MIFNA will observe the first of Ramadan and the start of fasting on April 2, 2022.  Communal iftar (majlis berbuka puasa) and ‘bazaar Ramadan’ are planned for April 2022.

MIFNA will also celebrate Hari Raya Aidil Fitri (Eid al Fitr) on Monday, May 2 with Eid prayer (sembahyang Raya) followed by brunch at a SoCal Community Center.

Please mark these dates on your calendar and plan your leave accordingly so we can celebrate Hari Raya AidilFitri together, insha’Allah.
